Backyard Herbalism: Growing Your Home Apothecary

Join us at Stinging Nettle Botanics on April 11th from 9am to 12pm for an intimate, small-group workshop introducing the fundamentals of herbalism and how to begin building your own backyard apothecary!

This three-hour class combines herbal philosophy, modern plant science, and practical gardening guidance to help you grow and use medicinal herbs at home.

What You'll Learn

• The philosophy and science behind traditional herbalism
• How plants support human health
• Easy medicinal herbs to grow in the Northeast
• Planning and planting your own herbal garden
• When and how to harvest and dry herbs

Participants will also enjoy a behind-the-scenes look inside our working apothecary to see how herbs are dried, stored, and transformed into teas, tinctures, oils, and salves.

Take Home Your Own Medicinal Garden

Each participant will choose 5–6 organically grown herb seedlings started in our apothecary, including options such as:

Echinacea
Chamomile
Calendula
Lavender
Yarrow
Mullein
Violet
Sage
Thyme
Peppermint

You'll leave with the plants and knowledge needed to begin your own herbal practice at home!

Participants will also receive priority invitations to separate summer workshops if they’d like to learn more on how to use the plants that were grown. These 1-hour workshops will cover topics such as: tea blending, herbal oil infusions, tinctures, and glycerites.
